Zauscher Lab Instruments

Asylum Research MFP 3-D Atomic Force Microscope for high resolution AFM imaging and surface force measurements. The instrument is equipped for Dynamic Shear Force Microscopy, a high resolution, high contrast imaging mode developed in the Zauscher laboratory.

BIAcore 1000. Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) based biomolecular interactions analysis (binding rate and equilibrium dissociation constants).

• Bioscope Atomic Force Microscope (Bruker/Digital Instruments) on an inverted Zeiss Axiovert microscope equipped with ratiometric fluorescence imaging. This instrument allows simultaneous optical/fluoresecence and AFM imaging.

Rame-Hart contant angle goniometer.

We are in the process of building a custom built, angle resolved SPR for protein and biomolecular adsorption measurements.

Additional Equipment

  • • QCM-D, quartz microbalance with dissipation monitoring (D-300, Q-sense, Biolin AB). Used for supported lipid bilayer measurements over a range of temperatures.
  • • QCM 200, quartz crystal balance with flow cell (SRS). Used for general protein or molecular adsorption measurements.
  • • Meiji reflectance microscope with long working distance objectives. This microscope is dedicated for fabrication of colloidal probe AFM cantilevers.
  • • Zeiss zoom stereomicroscope.
  • • Zeiss Axiovert 100TV, optical microscope equipped for multi-wavelength fluorescence imaging and FRAP measurements.
  • • 18 MΏ/cm water filtration and polishing system
  • • Thermostated vacuum-oven (Fisher)
  • • 1Mhz lock-in amplifier (Ametek) and function generators (Wavetek and SRS) for Dynamic Shear Force Microscopy (DSFM).
